Warm Spiced Winter Wine

Warm Spiced Winter WineI made a large batch of my Sparkling Apple Pear Cocktail and had plenty left. I thought, why not make a warm cocktail with the leftover mixture? That’s how this Warm Spiced Winter Wine was born. It’s warm, delicious and economical!

how good is that

Ingredients
  1. 1 crisp apple (such as a Honeycrisp apple), cored and thinly sliced
  2. 1 crisp pear (a Bosc pair is a good choice), cored and thinly sliced
  3. 1 cup brandy
  4. 3 cups unfiltered apple cider
  5. 3 cinnamon sticks (each about 3 inches long)
  6. 6 whole cloves
  7. 2 whole star anise
  8. 1 bottle of red wine (a young Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon work great)
Instructions
  1. Mix all of the ingredients together — minus the wine— and let sit in the fridge, covered, the day before serving.
  2. Pour apple/pear brandy mixture into a pan and add the wine. Bring to just a simmer until the mixture is heated through. You don’t want it to boil or be too hot. Ladle into mugs and enjoy!
