Shaun Myrick was my lead designer for a project to completely renovate and furnish an upscale vacation and rental home I purchased in Scottsdale, Arizona. This would be a totally “turnkey” project, which meant that in addition to working with the contractors on the renovation, Shaun would also be responsible for selecting all the furnishings as well, from the furniture and artwork to the bed linens, towels, flatware and dinnerware. We had only 10 weeks to complete the entire project in order to get the house on the vacation rental market before the end of the high season.
Shaun was the picture of “cool” under pressure from day one, despite the time pressure: calm, creative and organized with an incredible eye for detail and color. His amazing sophisticated yet comfortable design sensibility was exactly what I was looking for. We connected immediately and quickly fell into an open, collaborative rapport based on a shared design vision and mutual respect and trust. We also had a healthy dose of fun! Shaun was great at soliciting and incorporating my feedback on major design decisions, so we were always well aligned. His selections were superb. It was a terrific partnership!
Thank goodness Shaun also knew how to manage to a budget. When money got tight, I could always count on Shaun to say “no,” even when I couldn’t. Shaun never failed to come up with creative, cost effective alternatives that didn’t compromise on design or quality, or upset the contractors. (Yes, they loved him too!) We finished the project on time and on budget. The house is a perfect blend of contemporary and sophisticated casual that’s also relaxed and inviting. Thanks to Shaun’s magic, renters love the house, and my family and I do too.
Shaun is not only a truly talented designer and great fun to work with; he is a wonderful man — and chef — as well. His classic veggie burgers are to die for. I can’t wait to do another project with him. Now how good is that?
