Quinta de S. Francisco – What a Bottle. What a Value!

Wines of Portugal – Quinta de S. Francisco

The Companhia Agrîcola do Sanguinhal Quinta de S. Francisco is a wonderful wine from the Lisboa region of Portugal. The soil is fertile, imparting rich earthy notes and aromas into the wine, which is a blend Castelao, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional grapes.

The deep, garnet color is gorgeous and this blend is exceptionally smooth and drinkable, with bing cherry, tobacco, leather and dark raspberry flavors. The glass had an intense finish that just felt perfect and rounded out the wine’s spicy back notes.

The Quinta de S. Francisco would pair perfectly with grilled meats, pastas and fish, making this a well-rounded choice for almost any season and any menu. And, surprise! It’s quite a value. You’d expect to pay upwards of $35 for a comparable bottle from Italy or California. These Spanish, and especially Portuguese gems are still reasonable. You’ll pay between $15-20 for a bottle of this exquisitely crafted wine.
